Play. Learn. Explore

SJCOE is committed to Outdoor Education and Environmental Literacy.

Our goal is to connect people of all ages to the wonder and science of the natural world, provide an experience for self-discovery, and inspire a lifelong stewardship of our planet. Since 1957 the San Joaquin County Office of Education has been providing outdoor education programs which encourages discovery through hands-on learning. We believe in the benefits of taking youth outside in which their minds are naturally curious and inquisitive. Through outdoor education at Durham Ferry and Sky Mountain, the SJCOE hopes to provide opportunities for our youth to discover the world beyond their neighborhood.

Outdoor Education is one arm of the Environmental Literacy vision for SJCOE which is to:

Equitably educate and empower school communities to understand the intersections between human and natural systems in the past, present, and future, and to inspire civic responsibility on local and global environmental issues in order to innovate solutions towards a more sustainable future.
